Our History
Jones & Tomlin is a fully independent, family-run business specialising in premium beds, mattresses and bedroom furniture for nearly 80 years.
It all began in 1946...
Family is at the very heart of our business and we’re proud that our products have been at the heart of countless family homes for generations. We love meeting people who can remember buying their first dining or bedroom suite from us back in the 40’s or 50’s!
1946
Leslie Tomlin establishes Jones & Tomlin
When Leslie Tomlin, who went on to become a town councillor and Mayor of Worthing, opened the first store on Chapel Road, his vision was to supply a wide range of quality home furnishings with affordable prices; and second-to-none service.
1967
Richard Tomlin takes over
The reins are handed to Leslie’s son Richard, and in the years that follow, the business refines its focus to specialise in beds, mattresses and bedroom furniture. This sees the store renamed as Worthing Bedding Centre.
1993
Horsham Bedding Centre opens
Mid-Sussex customers are on our radar as we open our second store in the historic market town of Horsham. With four floors and a central location, the previous Hughes store quickly becomes one of the UK’s largest and best independent bed showrooms.
2005
A third generation in charge
We’re proud to remain an independent, family-owned British business as Adam Tomlin takes over as Managing Director, with his father, Richard, becoming Chairman.
2011
Online opportunities
We launch our first website and introduce our World of Sleep to national and international customers. It’s fair to say that our digital offering has come a long way since then!
2015
Chichester Bedding Centre opens
Opportunity knocks as we expand to three Sussex stores with the purchase of Chichester Bedroom Centre – a long-standing Bosham bed shop. Boasting approximately 8000 sq/ft over 2 floors, it’s an impressive addition to our list with a minimal name change!
2023
Hello Guildford
With growing demand in the Home Counties, opening our first store outside of Sussex was a big deal. With a distinguished location just off Guildford High Street, we’re proud to be complimented as one of the finest bed showrooms outside of London.
Present Day
The future is bright
We continue to grow, improve and re-furbish our stores. In-fact, we’ve gone full circle in Worthing with the store returning to the original Jones & Tomlin brand in June 2024.

We offer free delivery to most parts of the UK; and if you’re in one of our local delivery areas, we’ll even recycle your old bed and mattress free of charge. With sustainability in mind, we’ve also taken the Not-For-Landfill pledge; meaning you can sleep better knowing that your old bed has been entirely and responsibly recycled.
