Description
The Vispring Shetland Superb bed is generously upholstered with pure hand-teased real Shetland Isle wool with softly needled British fleece wool. The bed has a covering of worsted wool fabric and woollen tufts that finishes the bed to an incredibly high standard. The Shetland Superb is also partnered with a VI-Spring Wool Sovereign divan base which contains a high spring count and layers of pure new British wool for superb support and comfort.
Softly Needled British Fleece Wool
The bed is generously upholstered with 600gsm of softly needled British fleece wool, then 950gsm hand-teased real Shetland Isle fleece wool, overlaid with two layers of British fleece wool. Real Shetland wool is a rare, premium material, produced to exacting standards by seven hundred crofters on the remote Shetland Islands in Scotland.
The sheep were introduced to the islands by the Vikings over one thousand years ago, and have been reared by successive generations of crofters even since. They are an essential part of the islands' ecology, helping to sustain the natural habitat for native wildlife and birds. Real Shetland wool is an effective insulator and responds to your body temperature. Each fleece helps to ventilate the mattress naturally. Real Shetland wool can absorb up to 30 per cent of its weight in moisture, without feeling damp. It is 10 times more absorbent than synthetic mattress materials.
A Double Layer of Pocket Springs feature in The Vispring Shetland Superb bed
The bed contains 2,242* pocketed springs, 60mm in diameter, constructed with two layers of pocket springs that are sewn into individual calico pockets and hand formed into a honeycomb-nested unit. Using a double-layer of pocket springs in a mattress will extend the lift of the mattress, spreading your weight across a higher number of pocket springs. Mattresses with a double layer of springs are ideal for two people of different statures, helping to maintain the correct support where the most pressure is exerted.
The mattress is wrapped in fine worsted wool upholstery fabric from the Vispring fabric collection with a choice of Ecru (TICK-851) or Pebble (TICK-850). The bed is hand tufted with hand-tied woollen tufts and twine and benefits from three rows of genuine hand side stitching with flax twine. This gives the mattress an exquisite, tailored finish, but more importantly it gives supportive strength to the mattress edges that lesser beds need a metal rod to achieve.
The Wool Sovereign Divan Base
The mattress partners the Vispring Wool Sovereign divan base which contains 1,344* pocketed springs on a glued and screwed solid timber frame. Two layers of 250gsm heavily needled British fleece wool, overlaid with 600gsm softly needled British fleece wool, and once again in your choice of the finest quality fabric ticking.
